Bloomberg recently expanded its offering of ESG (environmental, social, governance) data byincorporating information from RobecoSAM’s percentile rankings on the Bloomberg Professional service at S&P Global (NYSE: SPGI) and RobecoSAM, an affiliate of Robeco, announced today that S&P Global will acquire the ESG Ratings Business from RobecoSAM which includes the widely followed SAM* Corporate Sustainability Assessment (CSA) – an annual evaluation of companies' sustainability practices. RobecoSAM was first to treat ESG as a standalone factor using its Smart ESG methodology. Together with S&P Dow Jones Indices, RobecoSAM launched the globally recognized Dow Jones Sustainability Indices (DJSI) in 1999 and continued to publish it jointly until 2019. Founded in 1995, RobecoSAM is an investment specialist focused exclusively on Sustainable Investing. It provides asset management, impact analysis and investing, sustainability assessments, as well as ESG data, ratings, and benchmarking.

Nordic countries continue to dominate as the most sustainable countries in the world, whilst the UK and US continued to slide, according to RobecoSAM. In January 2020, S&P Global acquired the ESG Ratings and Benchmarking business from RobecoSAM, which includes the SAM Corporate Sustainability Assessment (CSA). As a result, the SAM CSA Portal website is no longer hosted by RobecoSAM AG but by S&P Global. The investment teams for RobecoSAM Global SDG Credits and Global SDG Equities strategies use it for universe construction.

One administers the CSA for the purpose of issuing ESG ratings, and the other provides in-depth reports to companies seeking to understand their sustainability performance relative to their rivals. Additionally, the RobecoSAM name will continue to be used for the proprietary RobecoSAM Smart ESG Scores, RobecoSAM SDG Scores, RobecoSAM Country ESG Scores, RobecoSAM Gender Scores, and the RobecoSAM Environmental Footprint Tool Scores.
